NEW NYSSMA MANUAL, Edition 32, is in effect (as of 7/31/18). Aiming at future revisions, this article discusses the requirements in the Violin Solos section of the "NYSSMA Manual." Two types of sources are used for comparison purpose. NYSSMA Manual : a Resource of Graded Solo & Ensemble Music : Suitable for Contests and Evaluation Festivals. At solo and small ensemble festivals, students are given a performance evaluation that involves playing a graded solo from the NYSSMA Manual, playing scales and sight reading. The pieces listed are based on the NYSSMA Manual Grades 5 and 6. NYSSMA sponsors approximately 145 solo & small ensemble and major ensemble festivals in New York State each spring. While you are not required to perform the exact pieces listed, you must perform works of a similar and comparable difficulty level. To familiarize the evaluation criteria and to prepare students to meet the requirements, New York State music teachers use the "NYSSMA Manual" as an important teaching guide. Nyssma violin level 1 Buffalo State requires all music majors to audition on a primary instrument. The evaluation is influential because the selections of participant for All-State, All-County, and other music festivals are mainly based upon NYSSMA scores. All Solos must be listed in the NYSSMA Manual Edition 32, effective July 1, 2018. The purposes of the evaluation are to promote music programs in the schools and communities of New York State, and to provide a means of objective evaluation of musical performance. The 2021 NYSSMA Solo and Ensemble Festival will be held virtually. The New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) runs an annual evaluation of students' musical performance.
